| It all began with knitting & crochet... I taught myself how to both knit and crochet when my children were small - hat, scarf, and mittens seemed like a simple enough project at the time. Little did I know. I stayed up all hours until particular knitting stitches were perfected. Made my first pair of mittens (whatever happened to them???). Later, much later, came a cabled vest, dolls, and the hat and scarf set that was the true precursor to what would become SweetPea & Violets. Kids were all in school - some grown already and out on their own. My youngest was in high school - the opportunity came for me to go to work in a marvelous candle boutique, where I later brought my crochet work to sell - I had moved on from two needle knitting to one hook crochet, by then. Faster. Easier. For me. And, my sets did sell. I was elated. And, encouraged. The boutique went through its change of ownership, then, sadly, closure. As that closure was finalized, I decided that I should set up a webpage through which to sell my work. The site SweetPea & Violets was born. That first endeavor has morphed into something else, entirely! Evolving from a crafts themed to aromatherapy based site, [I suppose my desire to emulate The (former) Blissful Soul's spirit essence had to emerge somehow], SweetPea & Violets has become more involved with aromatherapy principles and product: oils, candles, crystals, herbs, and organic fragrances and bath products. I did, I will admit, attempt to address within the site my love of art and handcraft, as well as utilize it as the (originally) intended vehicle from which to showcase and sell my work. But, it's gotten out of hand! With that, I decided - time for a separate web site. And, here we are. |

| The Blissful Soul - July 2007 |
| As far as handcrafts (aside from the needlecraft) go, for me, I think it has always been about the dolls. Artwork began with childhood drawn paper dolls. While studying Fine Art in pursuit of a degree, I continued with paper dolls illustration as an adult - actually having several published in Doll Castle Magazine between 1990-93. Sewing skill led to (not only dressmaking that included drill team uniforms for daughters) making cloth dolls - I designed and drew the patterns my self. (Still drawing, you see.) And, I did knit a gargantuan rag doll, complete with outfit - 3 ft tall! I also tried my hand at clay sculpting, after taking the classes in sculpture (part of the Fine Art curriculum). I actually completed my version of a Japanese Geisha - a doll I actually intend to re-work - as well as other interesting sculpture projects. That was a lot of fun, actually. . |
